Building and Insulators Invercargill

WELCOME

It's a momentous year for us at BJ Carter - we've just clocked up 50 years, and, we figured, what better time to launch our website to let you know more about what we do, and how we do it.

When my father, Brian, started the business back in the early 60s, he was big on three things: "do it once, do it right", loyalty and great communication. Those values remain a cornerstone of our approach today, and, we reckon, lie at the heart of why we're one of Southland's longest-serving building and insulation firms.

For my part, I joined the family business in 1992. I had served my apprenticeship with Invercargill builder Dave Marshall 10 years previously, before setting off on my big "OE" working in construction in Australia, Britain and South Africa.

BJ Carter TeamIt's Personal

In every job we take on at BJ Carter, large or small, I personally oversee each project from start to finish. If there's a problem, a concern or a question, all our clients have a direct line to me to get what they need immediately. We put as much effort and care into building great relationships as we do building structures.

On the building front, we specialise in new homes, including design and build, renovations and alterations, maintenance, as well as light commercial work. What we don't do is "build by numbers" - we work carefully with every client to ensure their unique vision is brought to life, and there's no template for that.

Example kitchenAll of our tradesmen have been carefully handpicked, not just for their building talents, but their attitude, integrity and strong work ethic. As a result, our team has a long tradition of punching well above its weight in terms of awards, with several regional and national accolades for projects ranging from family homes and renovations to commercial developments.

Pioneers

We were also among the pioneers of insulation in Southland 30 years ago, and with our unique Airfoam® and Supa-Fill products, BJ Carter Insulation continues to grow with the increasing public awareness of the many benefits having a warm, healthy home bring.

As part of our commitment and passion, we have always been actively involved in Registered Master Builders, as well as regularly taking on apprentices, to help and develop our industry and our business.

Perhaps the biggest compliment we receive is the repeat business we gain from our family of clients, who come back to us, project after project, generation after generation.

Our Commitment

Looking back to 1961 when the foundations of BJ Carter were laid, a lot has changed in how homes are designed, built and insulated.

The houses may have varied, but our driver is the same today as it was the day BJ Carter began: Commitment - commitment to craftsmanship, commitment to quality and commitment to superior client care.

James Carter

So, welcome to our site - if you would like some further information or you're keen to discuss your next project, the team and I are here to help in any way we can.

The Registered Master Builders'
2011 House of the Year

We're very proud to announce we've continued our success at the Southern House of the Year Awards again this year, winning the award for best new home in the $600,000 - $1 million category and a Gold Award for workmanship.

Our regional win means we'll also be competing in the New Zealand House of the Year in November this year.

We have also been chosen as a National Gold Reserve finalist which represents the top entrants in this years competition. We will vie for New Zealand's top building honour - Placemakers Supreme Award for the House of the Year.

This latest success follows on from our achievements last year in the over $2 million new home category, when our team won a Gold Award and the Gib® Living Award regionally, and went on to take out the Placemakers® Heart of the Kitchen Award and a Gold Reserve Award at the New Zealand House of the Year.

James receives award
BJ Carter Managing Director James Carter receives the team's 2011 House of the Year Award from Chris Jaeger, of Jaeger Limited.

James is brilliant to work with from a client's point of view - he takes everything in his stride; I don't think I've ever seen him rattled. We can only give our highest recommendation and are delighted with the way our new home has been completed."
