A family affair, BJ Carter was started in the early 60s by pioneer Brian Carter with the ethos of doing things once and doing them right, loyalty, and great communication.
Now upheld today by son James Carter nearly 60 years on, those values lie at the heart of why it’s one of Southland's longest-serving building and insulation firms.
Every job, large or small, is personally project managed by James from start to finish and customers always have a direct line to have any queries answered.
Our builders specialise in new homes, including design and build, renovations and alterations, maintenance, as well as light commercial work. Our strength is in unique builds - we work carefully with every client to ensure their unique vision is brought to life.
Our team consists of tradesmen who’ve been carefully handpicked, not just for their building talents, but their attitude, integrity and strong work ethic. As a result, our team has a long tradition of punching well above its weight in terms of awards, with several regional and national accolades for projects ranging from family homes and renovations to commercial developments.
Our pioneering spirit saw us become one of the first specialist insulators in Southland three decades ago and more recently, we launched our own insulation line, Envirowool - using 100 per cent pure southern New Zealand wool.
As part of our commitment and passion, we have always been actively involved in Registered Master Builders, as well as regularly taking on apprentices to develop our industry and our business.
Perhaps the biggest compliment we receive is the repeat business we gain from our family of clients, who come back to us, project after project, generation after generation.
